Inspired by the traditional fowling craft, the Cumberland Rover Pelican Punt is a large flat bottom canoe, designed to carry one adult on protected flat water (small lakes, small rivers, creeks, swamps, etc.). It’s paddled from a simple cross beam seat near midship with a double bladed paddle or canoe paddle. This punt is also fun to sail. It requires no rudder or lee board. Like the English duck punt, it steers with a paddle and the hard chines (bottom edges) provide lateral resistance when sailing on the wind. The sides are formed from a pair of 1 x 10 × 16 pine or cedar boards, and the whole thing goes together with deck screws and construction adhesive.

Weight capacity is a conservative estimate. Your build may vary. This design fits medium to large sized paddlers. Smaller paddlers may also consider the Solo Pirogue 12.
